Jupiter enters Capricorn
Jupiter goes retrograde at 27 degrees Capricorn
Jupiter goes direct at 17 degrees Capricorn
Jupiter enters Aquarius

Jupiter, the planet that rules Sagittarius, is the largest planet in our solar system and is therefore associated with largess, expansion, luck, opportunity, growth, freedom, long-distance travel, marketing, promotions, publishing, foreign affairs, animals in general and specifically large animals, such as horses. It is also associated with the law, law courts, legal affairs and the legal profession, The Supreme Court, religion and religious leaders, riches, wealth, sports, philanthropy, humor, optimism and ships. From an astrological standpoint, planets are not only assigned signs over which they rule, but also signs in which they are well-placed and productive, as well as places where they are not so happily posited. It just so happens that Jupiter is considered ill-placed in the sign of Capricorn, the position of its fall. The reason for this is that Capricorn is a Saturn-ruled sign, meaning that it is a sign prone to structure, discipline, limitations and restrictions. Like the archer which it rules, Jupiter’s preference is for wide open, unfettered territory. Expansive Jupiter finds itself inhibited and boxed in when occupying this sign. One could say that Saturn-ruled Capricorn is akin to the reins that throttle the horse.  Perhaps the combination can be described as guarded optimism or controlled exuberance. When planets are situated in signs of their detriment or fall,it’s as if the sign and planet are working at cross-purposes with one another and so there is a sense of an oxymoron, of sorts. Contradictions are the norm, rather than the exception.

What can we anticipate from this position of Jupiter?

Those of you born under the sign of Capricorn or who have this sign prominent in your chart are likely to see this as a time of good luck, fortune, opportunity and growth. Conservative risk-taking may very well be rewarded, especially if the game plan is practical and well thought out. This placement will also benefit those who have planets in the other two earth signs of Virgo and Taurus, since signs of the same element find compatibility with one another. On a larger scale, it would not be surprising to find that large corporations thrive under this position and that government expands. Laws of the land are likely to become increasingly more conservative, there may be a greater tendency for large barriers to be built and greater opportunity for those who are ambitious, hardworking and play by the rules. There’s no free lunch under this type of placement. Everything must be earned and the more one looks at the long-term, bigger picture, the better off they will be. There isn’t much wiggle room for a warm, cozy, nurturing mindset. A focus on a large bottom line will be the norm, taking precedence over likability and popularity contests.

As you read the breakdown according to signs, it’s advisable that you consider not just your sun sign, but also your ascendant or rising sign. If you don’t know your ascendant, feel free to ask. You can email me with your birth date, time and place and I’ll let you know. Keep in mind that one’s ascendant can only be determined if the time of birth is known and is accurate.
